Nature video of the day: a walk down our driveway and up to the other side of the valley - where we leave you without a word and continue on our way.
when I was young I walked uphill both ways for a cup of coffee and gulps of fresh mountain air free for the walker not so good for the talker now that I'm wiser I still do the same for the hills remain where they've always been everywhere I walk it's uphill both ways and downhill - well, you comprehend... I used to think that grandparents were lying about getting to school, walking uphill both ways, without a coat and barefoot to say that life was harder in the past yet 'now' is harder in other ways and mostly we are much softer but never to the point of no return for when and where there is a hill the best way to traverse the inevitable land formation is up and over uphill both ways. - Cheryl M.
Here’s something different for this Sunday Daily Dose of Nature - a short video of our walk across the valley on our way to the local restaurant to talk to the owner about putting some of Csermely’s haystack postcards in their little shop. She accepted and Csermely came home with some money in exchange.
The video starts out at our wooden home and takes you through the valley of mooing cows, and out to the main road, which you can hear is made of stone and gravel. Who doesn’t love the crunch of an autumn walk under their feet?
Then uphill we go, till the road levels out, which is where we leave you by the oak trees - and with one last glance back to our home.
From there the restaurant is another 10-minute walk. Almost everywhere in the village is that far away. For milk, we walk 20 minutes, each way. And yes, that’s uphill both ways too.
To the top of the road to catch the bus (or hitchhike) into the city takes us 35 minutes, again, uphill both ways.
Which brings me to ask - how are you getting your steps in?
Indoors, or out, walking is feet down the best way to keep your body moving.
And when you walk, you get to slow down and notice things that you would otherwise pass by, such as this:

If you get a chance to walk anywhere in nature this weekend, take it, without a second thought. Simply put on your shoes and let your feet take you away, hills, or no hills.
Take your camera and slow down to take pictures along the way, for there is no good reason to rush (unless you get caught in a thunderstorm), and in weather as beautiful as this, you should be spending as much time outside as is humanly possible.
Remember, you are the human. You get to decide how much time in nature is enough.
As for the journal prompt of the day:
What do I love most about spending time outdoors in fall?
Make a list, for there is surely more than one aspect to being out in nature at this time of year that makes you happy.
Is it the falling leaves, or the crunch of them under your feet? Is it the warm sun on your back or the long shadows that the sun casts? Is it the unexpected flowers that bring a smile to your face? Or the changing colors of leaves that leave more than a hint of joy in your heart?
What is it about fall that feels so lovely?
Enjoy your weekend walk,
Cheryl
