yesterday the winter sun shone down upon the Earth as I basked in the apricity of the un-Februarylike moment eating a powdered sugar and nettle powder coated donut outside, on the porch sitting bare-shouldered and cross-legged on wood plank floor at the age of forty-six experiencing utter joy and solid contentment pure bliss a beautiful blissing today the weather has changed as weather tends to do the snow is falling gently like the powdered sugar dusting under the sun the day before, now the whiteness coats the grass as I feel another sort of blissing, stirring in the air around me as the echoes of barking dogs and the caws of crows fill the joyous spaces in between now and tomorrow - Cheryl M.
Like a glimmer, a blissing is something that shines, which feels like a blessing, only more abstract, so much so, that you may not even be able to put a finger on the very reason it brings you joy.
Blissings may even be untouchable, just seeable, or feelable, or knowable.
As I experienced filming the video above, there were several blissings being heard - and felt. The dogs in the valley, possibly calling out to one another, are often a delight to hear, especially as they’ve been rather quiet lately. The crows cawing were another pleasant sound, as well as the other birds adding to the excitement of the gently falling snow. Even three hours later as I sit down to write, the snow is still coming down in the most wonderfully elegant way, not in any rush at all.
All in all, it is a quiet day, the sounds of nature - and man - now being dampened by the gathering flakes. A serene reminder that winter is not finished, and that spring will just have to wait.
And wait we will, for at least another month.
Nature takes her time, and so shall we, as we sleep through the long dark hours of the night (sometimes 10 hours straight!), and sit by the warmth of the fire by day as we dream and create the future we wish to see in the world.
As for the journal prompt of the day:
Write a list of your most beautiful blissings this weekend.
Here are a few of mine:
crows coming to feed by the garden
powdered sugar and nettle powder donuts
baked pumpkin
pumpkin soup
listening to the falling snow
woodpecker knocking on the wall
the joy of watching winter through the window
puffing a flavorful cigar
a sip of green walnut brandy
the sound of flames flickering in the stove
What blissings are you grateful for today?
That’s all for this weekend. Now it’s time for you to get outside and enjoy your own daily dose of nature!
If you’d like to present your own recent nature photo, corresponding poem and journal prompt, we welcome all creative endeavors on the Daily Dose of Nature! Find our contributor guidelines here.
