Nature video of the day: birdsong & pollinators in our backyard meadow.
every day is a day to give thanks for yellow-dusted dandelions and color-changing lungwort, sly stinging nettles and pepper-popping Shepherd's purse, for constellations of starry chickweed in seas of vibrant green, so below, as above, offer up a moment of gratitude for the delicate plum, pear and cherry blossoms as they gently open up and drop their white angelic wings back to earth what happens in a moment is all too easy to miss when your eyes are busy watching other unavailing things busy as a bee you may be but that doesn't help their case for they are the ones out in nature bumbling about flying with the power of potent pollen from delicious flowers appreciating every moment of living a beautiful life on Earth - Cheryl M.
It’s April 22, 2025. Do you know how the Earth is doing?
Is it healthier than the year before, or is it lagging behind?
Are you finding yourself to be more caring and kind? Or are you in denial of all what has been, and what is being done, in the lands behind our backs, and directly in our backyards?
Have you noticed the decline of insects?
Or the absence of certain childhood memories that have been lost to the past?
Do you believe there is a chance we can get them back?
Not that we want to save what’s bad, but we do want to preserve what’s good. We want to preserve the wildness that is morally right.
And, I believe that’s the message we are receiving from Nature in the present moment.
Nature has given us several warnings which mostly have been ignored, yet we were notified all the same. As much as we (a majority of society) want to blame politics for what’s happening in the world, we must realize that we are also responsible for our actions.
As you watch the video above, ask yourself a few questions:
when was the last time I sat in a field and heard insects buzzing about?
does the sound of birdsong relax and/or soothe my soul?
is this scene something I envision for the future?
at the current rate of environmental degradation, will future grandchildren be able to see it at all? Not in a video, but live, in person?
The way I see it, Nature is beautiful - inside and out.
On this Earth Day, here are just some of the flowers that are blooming where we are:

If you know the names of them all, please comment below!
And let’s not forget the nature journal prompt of the day:
How do I see the environment in 2035?
That’s just 10 short years from now. But as we know from experience, every day of gratitude makes a difference.
It’s never too late to plant a tree or learn to identify a handful of wild herbs and actually use them to improve your health.
It’s never too late to walk barefoot, or bathe in wild water.
It’s never too late to start caring for the Earth that surrounds you.
Shortly after these pictures were taken, it started to storm. With thunder and lightning and all that springy, drippy stuff. The dandelions are now closed for the day, and so are we.
Wishing you a happy Earth Day every day,
