Very cool to learn a bit more about these cockchafers! A couple years ago there was a "plague" of them here in NZ in some of the beachtowns - but we lived by the beach back then and can't say I experienced them as a plague. Thanks for teaching me some fun facts about them!
Cool that you have seen cockchafers in NZ! They were usually considered a "plague" in the past, one time 20 million of them were eradicated in a small area in the UK. But they are only harmful in large numbers. Otherwise they are great to have around and beautiful, too at least I think so. The news usually overstates numbers anyway, if you know what I mean. Thanks for reading my post and commenting!
What a lovely post. For me it was all about the ladybirds. I recently wrote a post about them and you are right, I had so much fun learning more about them.
Thank you for reading and commenting on my post! I love ladybirds, too, and I'm glad you enjoy investigating insects as much as I do. Hope you have a summer full of bugs, ladybugs included, bumblebees and maybe even cockchafers... Do you have many, or any, cockchafers in Yorkshire?
I’ve been wondering this myself. I haven’t ever seen one, but I asked Google and we do have them in the UK - but apparently they are less common in the north including Yorkshire. So perhaps we don’t have them here.
I don't know about these guys🪲, but I saw many brightly colored salamanders 🦎 patrolling the forest floor this week, and I was on the receiving end of too many black fly 🪰 bites. The weather was nice, though.
Thanks for your comment, Kevin! I actually haven't ever seen salamanders 🦎 here in Breb, just a few slow worms and a couple of snakes. Last week I got a rather painful ant bite while gardening, however it was well worth it, for we had a lot of weeding and planting to do. But the weather was lovely here as well, so we got as much sun in as possible! Glad I could introduce a new insect to you! 🪲🪲🪲
