I remember the fog in Davis, California. It was so thick and cold, you could not see past your arm. And then seeing orange globes, emerging from the mist, telling me I had reached home. This was the blood orange tree my landlord has planted so many years ago. I think persimmons have the same effect: glorious color and promise of sweet fruit in the dead of winter.
What a wonderful memory of fog! It can get quite thick here through the mountain pass going through Cavnic.
In Breb, no. But in the neighboring villages there are monasteries, in Budești, Botiza and Bârsana, all within close driving distance, among several others. Have you watched Flavours of Romania on Netflix?
No, I haven't watched (yet). I think I would like to see some of these monasteries! A priest I watch on YouTube said that for a country the size of Pennsylvania, there are 500 monasteries! How inspiring and wonderful!
Romania may be larger than you think! When you come to visit there is an overnight train to the north from Bucharest, or 8 hours by car. Land mass wise it is twice the size of Pennsylvania, and according to the Romanian Orthodox church, there are 359 monasteries in the country, some of them are very beautiful! I hope you get the chance to visit one day!
