Nature photo of the day: solstice sunrise through the ash tree.
Good morning and Happy Solstice to you!
There are so many new followers for the Daily Dose of Nature, and that makes today even more special. And that’s saying a lot, because it is one of our favorite days of summer.
So, thank you for being here!
We got to thinking this morning about why it’s really important to get outside everyday. Because even though we know it in our hearts, it’s sometimes hard to say out loud in a way that really resonates with people.
And then it dawned on us, that the reason we go outside multiple times a day is to see something new, something that we will never see again in our entire lifetime on Earth.
We’ll never see the same butterfly on a plant we cannot yet name.
We’ll never see the same wispy clouds as they travel swiftly in front of the face of the moon.
We’ll never see the same wild cherry, fallen from the tree and suspended by the trailing grace of a wildflower.
What a net to fall into!
Stay a moment longer and join us for a poem…
on the eve of the solstice the moon also rises though it’s presence is humble, modest and respectful it knows that the glory belongs to the sun who outshines at any given moment yet without the plasma night light there would be no dawn - Cheryl M.
As for the journal prompt of the day:
In what ways do I honor/celebrate the summer/winter solstice?
It’s said that lighting and jumping over bonfires on Midsummer's Eve dates to Pre-Christian pagan rituals and it was thought to keep demons away, just as it brought good luck to lovers. Will you try it?
Let us know how you’ll be celebrating the solstice this year in the comments below!
