When was the last time you walked through a meadow to find beauty,
green walnuts and wild cherry trees?
Nature photo of the day: ox-eye daisy blooming in the meadow just before scything.
Today we went on a walk up to the orchard, where the grasses are standing tall. We were in search of green walnuts to make nocino, but found only two, due to the late frosts this spring. Though we did find wild cherries, black and ripe as can be. So we harvested those first, later to be infused in a jar of locally distilled brandy.
At the end of the walk we decided to saunter just a bit further to a grand walnut tree. There we asked for and found the other 18 green walnuts needed to complete the job.
Now they are all happily bobbing in the jar with a stick of cinnamon and nine cloves. Come winter, we’ll get to enjoy our first sip.
Sure, it may seem like a long time to wait, yet, good food takes time.
Sometimes, the slower, the better.
dear hay, i sincerely hope you are well tall and ready to be cut hopeful that it doesn’t rain any time soon i am looking forward our meeting because i’m a bit bored sitting in the shed, waiting. it is very warm outside and i know it’s almost time for the scything to begin wishing you a wonderful day, scythe - Csermely
As for the journal prompt of the day:
As summer begins, I begin to wonder: what is my favorite month of all?
While the beginning of summer holds cherries and rain for some, or hot sunny days for others, later in the season is a favorite for many. Which part of summer do you like best? We have trouble choosing...
We’d like to know, is June your favorite month? Why is that so? Leave a note in the comments below.
