On March 27, 2014, Roland and I self-published a course book titled Natural Simple Living. I found a copy of the hundred-page document on Csermely’s laptop just the other day when the power was out for an extended period of time, and for the sake of wondering what kind of thoughts were wandering around in my head way back when, I skimmed through the file and found this short essay:
Simple living is a way of life that fosters creativity, consciousness and the ability to be comfortable alone or fully present in a room of many. It also spans great distances despite its quantitative eliminations; making it absolutely true that less stuff really can equal more. More life. More fun. More love. More friendships. More understanding. More confidence.
More of the good things in life.
Sometimes we may feel a lack in our own vitality as we watch others cruise merrily on by, but keep in mind we all have our own struggles and stories to tell – they are in the making right now.
No matter if we are on our last coin (or our clothes are held together with a few meager stitches) we can still find moments of joy in every day. It is not about religion, some mystical higher power or the desire to be frugal, it is about saying “thank you” for everything you receive.
Gratitude doesn’t need to be verbalized, but it does require a deep sense of value and appreciation.
