Embracing imperfection.
On verdant emptiness, abundance, and an itty bitty cucumber.
Pink cauliflower, anyone? Yeah, I have never seen pink cauliflower before this year, either. It’s not a perfect, giant, white cauliflower like you would buy from a grocery store…
Our garden this year isn’t as abundant as in past years. There are many reasons for this, including a too cold spring, too hot summer, not enough rain, too much shade, & us not being home at the right times to water, weed, and pick slugs. In one word, our garden this year is imperfect.
But does it have to be perfect?
More than ever before, people are chasing perfection in the way they look, and in just about every other aspect of their lives. Looking for something that doesn’t exist: the Instagram-perfect, traditional, or “how-they-think-something-should-be” vision. But I’ll let you in on a little secret: perfection is an illusion.
This goes for everything in life, even (or especially) our gardens. This summer, our garden isn’t picture perfect, and that’s okay. In fact, there isn’t too much to see, unless you lean in closer…
